A creative work environment is important for companies in all industries to keep employees happy and motivated as well as to promote innovation in the workplace. Creative thinkers are essential to any team – these are the people who are willing to take risks, view failure as an opportunity to learn, and come up with unique ideas for new products, processes, and services that help set a company apart from its competition.
For years it was thought that creativity was a personality trait that some possessed, and others simply didn’t. But today researchers agree that creativity is a skill that can be learned by anyone at any point in their lives.
This is great news for employers, who have started to adopt a number of different strategies to increase their teams’ creativity and innovation in the workplace. From providing an appealing office space to encouraging brainstorming sessions offline, these strategies have proven effective in shaping work environments where employees feel more creative and motivated to work.
But what happens when you’re running a remote company and your team is spread out across the globe?
How We Promote Creativity at clovio
At clovio, creativity is at the core of what we do. Producing original, informative digital content for our partners requires plenty of technical skills but also a dash of creativity.
As a remote company however, we have a few extra challenges that can get in our way. That doesn’t stop us from trying though! There are plenty of things we can do to foster a creative working environment as a remote company. Below, we share some of our best processes that help us foster creativity at clovio:
Allow for a Flexible Workspace
An appealing workspace is one of the most important factors to help employees feel creative at work. But what happens when you work remotely and don’t have a company workspace? At clovio, we give our team the freedom to choose where they feel most inspired to work – whether that be their favorite coffee shop or from the comfort of their own homes.
Set a Flexible Work Schedule
As our team is spread out around the world, we don’t have set office hours at clovio. All we have is a set number of hours all team members must work per week, but then it’s up to each member to manage their own time. This allows our team to work whenever they feel most inspired and productive: night owls can stay up through the night, and early birds can start typing away at the crack of dawn.
Organize In-Person Events
One of the biggest challenges remote companies face is to ensure their teams feel connected and supported – and at clovio we’re no different. That’s why we hold regular in-person team-building events throughout the year to help our team build their relationships and feel truly connected and supported by each other. We also make sure that our events always involve a different and fun activity to help us step out of our comfort zones and think outside the box. We don’t want to make you jealous, but so far we’ve enjoyed a boat tour along the Tejo river in Lisbon, played Laser Tag in Budapest, and got stuck in Escape Rooms more than once! Pretty cool, right?
Hold Regular Calls With Team Members
As fun as our team events are, we unfortunately can’t have them every week. So to stay in touch, we check in regularly via video chat. These regular calls help us to check up on progress, identify issues, and brainstorm solutions together. In addition to these, we also have a team chat open 24/7 where we share ideas, celebrate team birthdays, and use every opportunity to drop a funny meme.
Diverse Projects at Work
At clovio, we are lucky to work with such unique partners coming from different industries. That means our writers and editors are always working on different topics, covering different products, and creating different types of copy for our websites. This diverse range of projects helps keep boredom at bay and encourages our team members to stay creative and innovative in their work.
