It’s no secret that at clovio we speak (and work in) a lot of languages. But one of our most talented polyglots might just be our Student Content Creator Heleen. A native Dutch speaker, Heleen studied Linguistics and Literature in French and Spanish. She currently works on our Feeling Lucky and Financus websites creating content in Dutch and French. If that wasn’t enough, this week she also sat down with us for a quick interview in English to tell us more about her studies, what she’s learned as a Student Content Creator at clovio, and her plans for the future.
Where do you come from and what are you currently studying?
I’m from Belgium, I live in the northern part so I speak Dutch. Last year, I finished studying Linguistics and Literature in French and Spanish. By doing this, I improved my fluency in our other national language and learned a completely new language for me, Spanish. This year, I decided to pursue another master’s degree to know more about economics before entering the job market.
Why did you decide to apply for a student job with clovio?
Honestly, I didn’t plan to apply for another student job, but the vacancy seemed so interesting that I decided to go for it. It was mostly because it could help me maintain my fluency in French. Now that I’m not studying it anymore, I was afraid I would forget a lot. Next to that, the flexibility appealed to me and I was interested in learning more about copywriting. I only work eight hours a week and I divide that between two days so even with a tight schedule, there’s always some time to work.
What is your role with clovio?
I’m a Student Content Creator at clovio. I write articles for the Feeling Lucky website about online casinos and slot machines in both Dutch and French. As well as that, I write about all kinds of investments for the Financus website, which only appear in Dutch. Furthermore, I conduct video interviews for Financus about different types of investments (bitcoin, gold, whisky, shares, etc.) with interesting experts in their respective fields.
What does your ideal day at work as a student worker look like?
An ideal day starts at 9 a.m. (I’m not an early riser 😊). Then I start writing about all different types of subjects. The variety is one of the most attractive parts of the job. For example, I start with writing articles about casinos and then I’m conducting interviews about investing. I only work four hours twice a week, so the time usually flies by – suddenly it’s 1 p.m., and I can have a good lunch.
What has been the best part about working at clovio?
After the flexibility, one of the best parts of this job is the constant learning. It helps me keep my proficiency in French up to date. And now, I’m even practicing my English with this interview 😊. I also learn a lot during the investment interviews. Some subjects were more familiar to me than others, but every day I work here I learn something new.
What did you learn so far through your work as a Student Content Creator?
As I said, I can keep practicing French and also learn about investing in bitcoin or whisky. Those are subjects I didn’t expect to dig into at first, but they were actually very interesting. What’s more, by writing articles frequently, my writing skills have improved. Now, it takes less and less time to structure and complete an article.
What are your career plans after you finish your studies?
When I (hopefully) finish my studies in June, I want to find a job that’s related to my diplomas and interests. I would like to use French and Spanish in a professional way and am looking forward to doing that in a commercial field.
